Thirty-two U.Va. student-athletes were the recipients of named scholarships at the annual All-Sports Award banquet on May 2. These awards are based on athletic and academic achievement and individual merit as determined by the coaches and athletics administrators. Named scholarships are made possible through the generosity of individuals, families and organizations.
An endowment provides a steady, secure source of scholarship assistance and lessens the burden on the Annual Campaign and the need to increase the annual giving levels.
The value of the endowment has grown significantly since 1992 when it was valued at $5.5 million. Today, its worth is more than $59 million.
Every donor has the opportunity to give to the endowment. There is no minimum gift; however, naming opportunities begin at $50,000. A gift of $500,000 pledged to the endowment allows a donor to name an athletics scholarship in the sport of choice. Endowments to support the operational budgets of each of our 25 sports can also be established.
