Introduction to New Policy

For more than 75 years, Scott Stadium has played an important role
in building a proud football tradition at the University of Virginia.
With its classical construction, pergola plaza and “grass seating”
affectionately called The Hill, the facility is considered by many to
be one of the best college football venues in the country.
Scott Stadium at the Carl Smith Center also is a place of honor,
tradition and heritage: a place of uncompromised excellence. The
sight of the mounted Cavalier riding onto Harrison Field warms
the hearts of all Virginia fans. Game day excitement and a winning
tradition have created new generations of fans seeking to attend
Virginia football games.

Over the past several years, more Virginia fans than ever before
have become season ticket holders and the number of Virginia
Athletics Foundation donors has increased to more than 9,600.
This growth has made it necessary to develop and implement a new
policy to allocate seats in Scott Stadium. This policy is based on an
equitable priority structure and will begin with the 2008 football
season.

Seating allocation in Scott Stadium has never been completely
based on Virginia Athletics Foundation contribution priority, and, as
a result, many season ticket holders do not sit in seats
commensurate with their level of giving or priority within the
Virginia Athletics Foundation. Over the past several years we have
conducted extensive research, including the study of football
seating and parking policies at peer institutions, as well as a
complete review of our donor base and their seat locations. As a
result of these findings, we have developed a new policy that will
allocate seats and parking as fairly as possible.

The new policy will allow donors to maintain or improve their
existing seating and parking locations based on certain giving
criteria tied to our prevailing system of giving levels and priority
points. It offers non-donors the opportunity to become donors,
improving their seating and parking options. The policy also
enhances the Foundation’s flexibility to address the future funding
needs of the athletics department – ranging from scholarship and
academic support to ongoing operations.

Tremendous thought and care went into developing the changes to
our seating and parking policy. This brochure explains the rationale
for the new policy and how the process will work.

The new policy begins in the 2008 football season and will have no impact on seating or parking for the 2007 season.
