Virginia Athletics Foundation

Donors to the Virginia Athletics Foundation play a critical role in advancing the mission of the athletics program. Through the generosity of the more than 9,600 donors each year, the Foundation is able to:

  • Fully fund student-athlete scholarships for our 25 men’s and women’s sports programs up to the maximum allowed by the NCAA.

  • Provide more than $1 million annually to fully support the Academic Affairs program for all student-athletes.

  • Support a portion of the athletics department operational budget.

  • Fund the renovation of existing facilities and construction of new ones.

The Athletics Department receives no funding from the Commonwealth of Virginia or the University, and generates its own operating revenue primarily through fund raising, ticket sales and sponsorships.

The Virginia Athletics Foundation Annual Campaign plays a vital role in providing a significant amount of this revenue. Scholarship costs continue to increase each year as the University reviews its funding needs to provide the highest quality educational experience. Athletics scholarships, which include tuition, fees, books, room and board, increase at the same rate as for all students at the University. As the athletics program continues to grow, additional resources are needed for each of our 25 sports to operate and compete at the National and ACC Championship levels.
