The Virginia Athletics Foundation (VAF) is the fund-raising organization of Virginia Athletics and provides financial support for all athletic scholarships, academic affairs, summer school, facilities, and operational needs of the athletics department. The University of Virginia Athletics Department does not receive any money from the state and relies on ticket sales and private support each year to provide student-athletes the opportunity to achieve academic and athletic excellence. Donors to the Foundation include former student-athletes, parents, alumni, fans and businesses who recognize the value of the intercollegiate athletics experience and enthusiastically provide support in a variety of ways.

VAF is dedicated to maintaining a championship level athletics program at the University of Virginia. Through the generosity of loyal donors we are able to:

• Fully fund the maximum number of scholarships that the NCAA allows for its 25 varsity teams—an equivalent of 316.6 full scholarships.
• Fully support the operational expenses of the Academic Affairs program to provide individualized academic support to all student-athletes.
• Provide summer school opportunities for student-athletes.
• Support the operational needs of the athletics program that include recruiting costs, team travel, equipment and athletic training.
• Raise funds for the renovation of existing facilities and all new athletics facilities.

We are a staff of 19—four are U.Va. student-athlete alumni and 7 are U.Va. graduates.

Special Events
To create enthusiasm for our teams and to further develop donor relations, we host over 100 events a year that include pre- and post-game functions, golf outings, special milestone celebrations, the All-Sports Reunion, spring and fall socials, meet-the-coach opportunities, bowl and post-season competition arrangements and events, etc.

Publications & Communications
Donors making a $100 minimum gift receive the Cavalier Corner, a magazine published six times per year that covers Virginia’s 25 varsity programs. All donors receive email updates of noteworthy events or deadlines.

Tickets and Parking
Donors to the Foundation receive priority seating and parking for home and away athletics events for  many of our varsity sports.

VAF coordinates the fund-raising efforts for both planned gifts and the endowment for the long-term  success of Virginia Athletics.
